Grenfell Heritage Hotel and Suites was originally known as the Carlson House and was operated as a nursing residence and apartment building. It was named after the late Selma Carlson who started as a nurse with the Grenfell Mission in 1915. She began in Battle Harbour and later moved on to St. Anthony where she was a nurse for 25 years.

Grenfell Heritage Hotel and Suites is a tribute to Sir Wilfred Thomason Grenfell who gave so many years of his life to care for the people of Northern Newfoundland and Southern Labrador.
